Buzzfeed Grows Huge Balls and Steps into WikiLeaks Territory
Buzzfeed, the popular site we've all spent countless hours lurking, has just dropped an unauthenticated dossier implying that Russia has been more or less blackmailing Trump for the last 5 years.
Trump and some other politicians and journalists have criticized Buzzfeed for releasing an unverified dossier, saying things like releasing a government file in it's entirety isn't journalism, and that the viral site will pay the consequences.
Buzzfeed has certainly been heading in the direction of harder news over the last 5-10 years as a major outlet for minority, LBGTQA, and other disenfranchised groups in the US, sharing powerful and important stories and messages to huge groups of people.
But, this isn't the typical Buzzfeed we're familiar with. This is a leaked, (unverified) Intelligence dossier accidentally leaked by the CIA and picked up by Buzzfeed.
If you're having doubts about the source, keep in mind that Buzzfeed was co-founded by Kenneth Lerer of the Huffington goddam Post, and that one of the articles' three authors has just won a Pulitzer prize in for investigative journalism.
So, how does dropping a government document on Buzzfeed separate it from WikiLeaks, why didn't the Huffington Post drop this themselves and, most importantly, what are we supposed to make of this?
